The driest place on earth: Atacama desert.

Desierto de Atacama or just Atacama is the northern part of Chile. San Pedro de Atacama named after the driest place on earth estimate rainfall is every year several mm of rain. That is not much.

Common travel between Uyuni and San Pedro

Al lot of travelers trave from San Pedro de Atacama to Uyuni through the salt flats and Eduardo Avaroa National park. It’s an adventurous ride of mostly 3 days and 2 night. One of the highest points you can go by jeep over 5000 meters. You not only see salt flats but also strange rock formations, local wildlife, red lakes and tiny places with a few locals.

The Valley of death and the moon

Valle de la Muerte and Valle de la Luna are located 20 km outside San Pedro. You can visit those places by tour but also by yourself by renting a mountainbike. Beware take some suncream with you and a lot of water (well what do you expect of the driest place on earth). Not much people visit those places especially on day time when you feel king of the world by yourself. You probably meet more travelers with sunset or sunrise near coyote’s rock.
