Kaifeng one of the 7 ancient cities – Photography series

One of the 7 ancient cities

Kaifeng is referred as one of the 7 ancient cities. I visit for now 4 of those cities. Together with Beijing, Xi’an, Luoyang, Hangzhou, Nanjing and Anyang it has an important role of the cultural history of China. The city is mentioned for the very first time (under the name of Dongjing or Bianjing) around 350 B.C.  Today the city is known of the ancient city of Calligraphy. However because of it size in the row Luoyang, Zhengzhou and Kaifeng. Kaifeng is the smallest one of 4 million people. Check the photos.

Visiting Kaifeng

It is very easy going to Kaifeng. Probably you leave the city from Xi’an, Zhengzhou or Luoyang. Kaifeng got his own high speed train railway and a normal railway station. From Zhengzhou it is also possible get a bus. I went together with my colleague by our own driver. It can take a while to travel 50 km. It would take us 2 hours because of the traffic and every mile got traffic lights (on red color of course). When we arrived we visited first the imperial street. A great area with a lot small shops and a beautiful Dragon Pavillion park. But our main highlight was visiting the evening or night market near the Drum tower. However we went back to Zhengzhou during nightfall we saw a glimpse of the small mobile food stores. Just unloaded from the different cars, wagons, floats. And taste the culinary delights of all the parts of Henan province. More information about Kaifeng check here or here.
