Workshop at the University of Ecology & Management in Warsaw, Poland.
Last year, in 2023, when I was teaching at the ZUA Art School in Zhengzhou, marking the beginning of a wonderful journey, I met several Polish lecturers who were also my colleagues at ZUA. This sparked the idea of possibly giving lessons or workshops in Poland as well. The seed was planted, and last week it came to fruition. Over the past week, I conducted a Design Thinking workshop for a small group of students at the University of Ecology and Management (Wyższa Szkoła Ekologii i Zarządzania w Warszawie, WSEIZ) in Warsaw, Poland. The content was nearly identical to what I had delivered in Jalandhar and New Delhi, India, with the major difference being that the guidance was more personal and one-on-one.
Students
The students came from various disciplines, including fashion design, interior design, and architecture. Some had completed their year, and some had even graduated. This demonstrated their positive mindset in attending this ‘summer school’ workshop, showing their genuine interest in learning something beyond their usual paths. It proves that Design Thinking is applicable to everyone, regardless of their level of education or background.
The students came up with beautiful, innovative ideas and prototypes that addressed the task of ‘how to make life easier or more accessible for people with disabilities’. The students and staff expressed their satisfaction at having gained valuable insights to apply this methodology within their own fields.
I would like to thank Janusz Marchwinski, Justyna Klys, and Bogdan Gorczyca for the opportunity to conduct the Design Thinking workshop at WSEIZ. Additionally, I extend my gratitude to Piotr Gastman and Anna Pietocha for their hospitality in helping me navigate Warsaw.
